We’ve made a tough decision – Hellraid will be released in 2014

Posted on by in Development

Since we started developing Hellraid we have had a clear goal to create a game that we all would love to play. We wanted to pay tribute to the best aspects of classic titles we grew up on and enhance them with new ideas, modern technology and extensive co-op that would provide players with dozens or even hundreds of hours of pure and bloody fun.

If we released our game this year we would have to make too many compromises and the final product probably wouldn’t meet all our promises and your expectations. That’s why we’ve made a tough decision to release Hellraid in 2014 or to be more precise: when it’s done.

Entering Catacombs

Why? The additional time will give us the chance to add new features and completely new game modes for single player and co-op that until now we haven’t had time to finish. We also want to use this time to rethink a few things. Playtesting our game with fans and players who visited our office gave us a lot of fresh insight and new perspective on many aspects of the game. For example we want to redesign the magic system to make it even more powerful and diverse, add new ways of casting spells and a set of new, more visually stunning spells.

We believe that with this decision Hellraid will deliver all that we’ve promised and even more. You’ll still be able to read about its development and see it for yourself on this blog. We also hope that you’ll keep supporting us just like you did so far with all your ideas and comments on the blog, in e-mails (we really have to answer them more often), on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the Steam Community Hub forum.

This looks like Painkiller met Dead Island. I had an awesome time with both games, so I cannot wait for this one to be out! Instant buy.

Can't wait for this game, its exactly what I've been looking for. First person action game with a fantasy setting, persistent features, and enough randomness to make it really replayable

Very much looking forward to playing the crap out of this game. Knowing that it will released soon is just an added bonus. I can tell you with absolute confidence that we are all eagerly awaiting its arrival. Keep up the good work ladies and gents.

Can't wait for this game. I expect relatively a lot but don't rush it and take your time to properly finish it. We had enough of those half done beta versions released as "finished product" for full price. Don't let those complaining trolls push you otherwise they would be first ones to complain about earlier unfinished release of the title anyway.

i cant WAIT for this game! march 2013 already and not too many updates as far as videos go, although im glad to see some fleshed out development in the blog! spooky scary skeletons ooOOOooo!

I'm not happy seeing that this game will be on consoles too. From what i read about this game so far feels great...but just that feeling that this game could become FastFood console game is dreadful

Shush up, there's nothing wrong with consoles, don't be such a narrow minded fanboy. It's not about pc, ps3, xbox, etc. It's about games, and everyone deserves to play them no matter what console or preference.

Well said, I was pretty hopeless when i found the trailer on steam because i knew my computer wouldn't be able to run it but when i found out it was coming to consoles i was so relieved.

I don't know why people are complaining so much about these "delays" if you really cared about getting a decent gaming experience out of hellraid then you'll wait till its complete. I personally applaud you hellraid devs for putting as much work into it as we can speculate. And im sure the last thing they need is whiny trolls.

Posted on by Tobiacus

Here here! No rush, especially since it is going to console as well. Console updates are slower to go out, console players shouldn't be left hanging just to rush out the game for pc players. Probably will play this on pc, maybe they should think about the newer consoles(PS4,XB1) as well. Sure wouldn't hurt to have more titles in their first year of release.

I do not understand what's with people asking for a quick release, only to complain about "CRAPPY GRAFIX1111" or "BAD GAMEPLAy, TOO HARD!111" when the game is FAR from done? Just wait it out. Cyberpunk 2077 is takign the same route to make sure they get the best possible launch they can.

Was hyped up for a while waiting for it. Not anymore, just too long and delays. Was on my wish list on steam. Now off my wish list. Don't think I will buy at all now when it comes out. Farewell.

FUCK THAT. WE WANNA THIS GAME EARLIER OF 2014 & WHAT IN THE FUCK DOES IT MEANS:WHEN WE FINISH IT HUH? IT MEANS THAT U WONT RELEASE THIS FUCKING
BLOODY GAME DON'T U? EVERY FUCKING COMPANY HAVE ONE THING IN COMMON: THE ARE LIARS DO U THINK THAT WE WILL BELIEVE U RIGHT? WE R NOT DUMB ASSES LIKE U,BUT PROVE TO US THAT WE R WRONG AND RELEASE THE GAME BEFORE THE AUGUST OF 2014 IF U R FOR REAL A DIFFERENT COMPANY THAN THE OTHERS GOOD LUCK OF FINISHING UR GAME! WE ARE WAITING!

I realize you refer to yourself as 'Kratos' likely reference to the god of war series...anyways bro, seek anger counseling. If you flip out like this over a video game...I don't see you going far in the real world.

Calm down. By the way it is actually better if they delay it because they have more time to add and change features within the game. you should read the bog post because they are changing the spell system and adding way more things

PLEASE don't make this a re skin of dead island. and make sure to have some optimization at launch and balanced game play. other than that, keep up the good work

I am most excited for this game to hit my PC, it looks gorgeous, and has controller support. What will decide if I continue to play is if it has a solo/co op horde style mode, it has to include a solo horde mode though, too many games do co op horde only, then the game loses fanbase and the mode is impossible to start for lack of players.........my hopes are very high, I know

Do a kickstarter!
There was an old mod way back for Unreal Tournament 2000, called 'Black Magic' look to that for inspiration. Was an amazing game mod. Considering also that many UT2000/half life/Quake mods went on to become full fledged games it's worth consideration.

We said "No" to Kickstarter long time ago and we're sticking to this decision.

Dont feel bad about pushing the release date back, everyone does lol.

Super hype for this game, cant wait to play it!

You made a wise decision releasing the game in 2014.

Its better to have a game full of cool stuff (good single player / coop modes etc.) then having a unfinished game that still could have used some tweaks and changes.

I also hope you guys optimized the game well (it attracts a lot of customers) =)!

Hello development team I am SUPER excited for this game, and the wait will be worth it. I hope you really refine the analog combat system from Dead Island, because the combat in that game is just marvelously satisfying. I just wish there was a stab/ram/bash option. And while I love the kick, I have the feeling a medieval game is going to require shields/blocking just hope it stays balanced without over simplifying the combat. Also, an analog magic casting system would be great!

Hi, I think that the story is what is going to make or break the game. Make a really strong story line, a main one and side ones. If the story is strong and have excellent gameplay, this will be an award winning game.

I don't have any problem with this decision, just take the time you need for making a good game. I'm a big fan of first person slasher and hack and slash so i'm really excited by what i saw about this game.
But i'm also affraid of being disapointed so i want to give you some suggestions and expectations.
I would like to see in this game ( in addition to everything you promised);
enemy diversity ( for a fantasy game, you need a lot more diversity compared to a zombie game)
freedom of movement (jump attack, kick, charge, slide, dodge, lean)
lot of character's build possibility (take look at path of exile)
a pvp mode could be great, take a look at chivalry medieval warfare and see how a good combat system and some classical game modes (deathmatch, capture the flag etc..) can quickly add hours of fun to a game.
I could add a lot to this list but those points are important to me.
Keep up the good work and thank you,

Game looks pretty sick based on the trailer. Take all the time you need if it means a better game. Will it be released across all consoles or only on next gen?

Will you guys be releasing a beta version of the game?

I don't know a ton about this game so far, but since you guys are putting this on the 360 I've heard, could you PLEASE give us either local multiplayer, or at the very least system link? Some gamers (myself included) don't have internet connections at home, and we would like to play these games with our friends. But more than that, we would like to play these games in multiplayer with our REAL LIFE friends, so local, or at least system link, multiplayer is a must for us. If not, then I may just get it on the PC (if it is getting a PC release) instead and we can play it multiplayer when we have internet connections. Laptops are mobile after all, game consoles not so much.

Postponed? okay.
take your time, it always makes for the opportunity for a better game.

though it would be great if i could play a little bit for myself.
yes, something like a demo. so we can see what Hellraid stands as, currently.
doesn't need to be anything big, 20 or 30 minutes of 'content' would be more than enough.

just quite looking forward to this, but still don't have any idea for how Hellraid 'feels'. i'm excited, but also worried. games like this often fail on the 'feel'. and that can be a major killer.

but there's millions of people that could provide feedback on things.... ;)

I'm not complaining in fact i think more developers should do this. Hell why should you need a time limit all that does is limit creativity.

and maybe we all could preorder hellraid, to speed up the development. What do you think of that ?

So, if you are going to make it much more better, please, at least do provide 3d vision support. Thank you.

3D vision=/=better, 3D vision=a gimmick. Focus on important features first.

while it saddens me, I will still obsess about this game till its release, it seems this kind of game is a dying genre, sure there are first person adventure games, but old school throwback esque ones like this I've been waiting for and am super excited

I was disappointed but now i think that's a good thing. I hope that whit this time you'll make a real badass game! and most of all: put A LOT of SPLATTER! please! i'd like a very gorish gameplay with the barbarian!

I agree that OCULUS support for this game will definitely be a huge hit in the market and for both hardcore and interested gamers. This game has a chance to stand out even more to a broader audience with Oculus support.

Posted on by Toferyo

i relay wish the devs will rethink the opinion about support the oculus because oculus rdy/support game will be a bigger market in 2014 :)(because they release the customer version in 2014 too) and will be fight for audience not only between normal game

I am sorry to hear this game being delayed. A friend of mine prophesied this and I said it wouldn't happen. Now everyone in my clan who had even just a slither of hope for it, don't even want to talk about it. Its a shame but now you have no excuse for anything half assed or "untested". Anyway good luck Hellraid Devs! I have faith in you still!

Posted on by AnonBH
reply

Why would a delay make you lose faith? All it means is they're taking more time to make sure the game is as good as it possibly can be.

Posted on by Snowskeeper

Well I am not surprised, and I can live with that. As long we get a quality game, I'm all for more development time.

Posted on by Officer Gigglez
reply

I was just saying to myself last night that I hope they dont rush this game out the door before its ready.

Posted on by anonymouse
reply

At least the devs are being intelligent about it. Too many either rush themselves or are rushed by their publisher, and the result is a bad game.

Also, for those of you saying "It looks done" or that "It's too far away", or in general complaining about the 2014 release date are you serious? Do you know exactly what they're doing, what's in the game, what isn't, what they have planned, what needs to be worked on, etc.? No, you don't. So claiming that it "looks done" (when we still have maybe just a teaser and some screenshots to go on) is silly. Just because parts of the game LOOK done doesn't mean it IS done. Geezus.

I, for one, can wait a little bit. I'd rather a 2014 release date than a rushed (and therefore, bad) game. Be patient. It'll most likely pay off.

Sound good. I have high hopes for this game. Big fan of the old co op shooters (doom, heretic, hexen, Duke Nukem, Blood, Shadow Warrior) and love all the new ones (Dead Island, Borderland, Left 4 Dead)....So I want a fantasy game that is like Borderlands/Dead Island that I can play with my wife, friend, and brother in law. Especially since Skyrim Online, now has a monthly subscription.

Another game that's been delayed to 2014? What, is there some super virus going around that only affects games that were supposed to come out this year?

Posted on by schizophrenic lemur
reply

First of all, i don't know much about the spells that you want to put in the game, but since you have now time for some new spells, it would be nice if the mage or paladin could have a spell named resurection. This spell would resurect a fallen enemy. And because zombies are basicly dead, you charakter could cast it on a zombie, who in the process will be turned into normal man. This spell would be very usefull against large group of enemies, because the one zombie who turned into a living man, could be a good distaction for the other zombies. While the others eat the man, you have time to eliminate them :).

2014 , Q3 or Q4 ? We don't know when exactly. Because wait a year :( It's very long. I hope you add more use of the environment as in Dark Messiah. Good luck :)

PS it'll have the possibility to compensate for pre order :)

Take your time and get it right. I'd rather have a more polished game with more features rather than something released quickly and early.

Tell that to Activision, Treyarch, and Infinity Ward.

Posted on by Officer Gigglez

Disappointed to hear that it's delayed, but it sounds like you guys are going to be putting the extra time to good use. I'm really hoping it's out in Q1 2014 because I've really been looking forward to playing Hellraid, or at least seeing it. With the announcement of the delay in lieu of adding features, will that delay showing gameplay to the public as well? :(

NO! YES! my feelings are divided about this, i'm really happy about magic being more worked on, but sad about this game getting further away from release but if that's the price for game of my dreams... so be it! T_T

I don't mind the added wait if it means a better game, but do you still plan on releasing a gameplay video this year?
